Safe Hands

Staff onboarding for schools, colleges and workplaces

Every new member of staff gets the same grounding in safety, dignity and wellbeing in their first weeks. Safe Hands comes in two editions: SWISS Safe Hands for schools, and CREW Safe Hands for workplaces and colleges. Deeper tracks prepare the people who handle concerns when they are raised.

In both editions

  • Taken online in the first weeks, at each person's own pace, by every new joiner including shift, field and contract staff
  • Built on situations staff will recognise, with role plays they can try more than one way
  • A short knowledge check closes each module, and each course ends with a certificate of completion
  • A take-away sheet with spaces for your own child protection lead, committee, counsellor and support services
  • Completion is recorded for each person, ready for an inspection, an audit or your annual report
For schools

SWISS Safe Hands

Written for K-12 schools, from the school gate and the bus to the staff room: child protection and POCSO, workplace respect and POSH, student wellbeing and suicide prevention, bullying and peer safety, and student data.

For every adult in the school5 courses

Taken in the first weeks by teachers, office staff, bus drivers and attendants, security, housekeeping and ayahs, and school leaders. The data course is for staff who handle student records.

Leadership track3 courses

Half-day courses taken after the all-staff courses by the people other staff turn to when they are worried.

Part of SWISS, our certification pathway for schools.

For workplaces and colleges

CREW Safe Hands

Written for any employer, naming roles rather than one organisation, so it fits a college, a hospital or a company: preventing sexual harassment, respect and inclusion, mental health and suicide prevention, burnout, and personal data.

For every member of staff5 courses

Taken in the first weeks by everyone, from office and frontline staff to drivers, security and contract workers. The data course is for staff who handle personal data about colleagues, students or customers.

For people with a role in handling concerns3 courses

Taken in addition to the staff courses by the people others will turn to.

For workplaces, it runs on the CREW platform, which enrols each new joiner automatically, tracks progress for HR and can update your HRIS or ERP as it happens.

If you are worried about a student or a colleague right now, Tele-MANAS is free on 14416, Childline is on 1098, and in an emergency call 112.

How it works

The same steps run in a school, college, university or workplace. Ask us how it would be set up for your staff.

Your institution is set up

Your programme, tracks and due dates are set once for your school, college, university or workplace, for each campus or location if you have several.

Why it matters

Every employer in India with ten or more employees must have an Internal Committee under the POSH Act, 2013, and must run awareness programmes so staff know what sexual harassment is and how to raise a complaint. Schools and colleges are employers, so this applies to them as much as to an office or a factory.

Staff are often the first to notice that a colleague is struggling, and many handle personal data every day under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. A policy on the website does not prepare them for either. Short, practical training in the first weeks does.

In a school the stakes are higher, because the people at risk are children. Any adult who suspects sexual abuse of a child must report it under the POCSO Act, 2012, and the Supreme Court's 2025 guidelines on student mental health ask schools to train every member of staff. SWISS Safe Hands is written for that setting, from the school gate and the bus to the staff room.

Safe Hands for Schools

For every adult who works in the school: teachers and coordinators, office and accounts staff, bus drivers and attendants, security, housekeeping and ayahs, canteen staff and school leaders.

Under the POCSO Act, 2012, any adult who suspects that a child is being sexually abused must report it to the police. In a school, that includes the bus attendant and the security guard as much as the class teacher, and the head of the institution carries a separate duty for staff under their control.

The Supreme Court's 2025 guidelines on student mental health ask every school to train all its staff to notice a student who may be struggling and to know what to do. Staff who never enter a classroom are often the ones who see it first.

A school is also an employer, so the POSH Act, 2013 applies to its staff, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 asks for particular care with children's data.

Safe Hands for Colleges and Universities

For faculty, administrative, library, laboratory, hostel and support staff, including visiting and contract staff.

Colleges and universities are employers under the POSH Act, 2013, with the same duty to constitute an Internal Committee and to run awareness programmes for staff.

Registrars' offices, admissions and examination cells handle large amounts of student personal data, which the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 requires to be protected.

Colleges take the CREW Safe Hands courses, which are written for any employer. They cover staff only. The UGC's regulations on sexual harassment in higher education institutions also protect students, which these courses do not cover; use them alongside your institution's student procedures.

Safe Hands for Workplaces

For every employee from their first week: office, frontline, shift, field, remote and contract teams.

Every employer with ten or more employees must have an Internal Committee under the POSH Act, 2013 and run awareness programmes, wherever its people work, including on travel, at client sites and online.

HR, payroll, customer support and sales teams handle personal data daily under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and managers are often the first to notice a colleague who is struggling.
